These filters are recommended as replacements for reverse osmosis filter systems with 3x vertical pre-filter housings per images 5-8.

The lower the micron rating number the more sediment / particles are removed by the filters i.e. a 0.5uM filter will remove more than a 5uM filter however the trade off is if you have high sediment the finer filters may clog sooner.
