KX MATRIKX PB1 IN LINE FRIDGE WATER FILTER INLINE 10"X2" LEAD PFAS CHLORAMINE
Matrikx Pb1 Inline Carbon Block Water Filter, 10" x 2" Extruded Coconut Shell Carbon, 0.5 Micron Nominal
Fits all makes of fridges using in line filters including Samsung, LG, Westinghouse, Fisher + Paykel, GE, Bosch and Whirlpool, plus ice makers, coffee machines, bubblers and water coolers
This is the best in line fridge filter we stock, and it is worth understanding why. Almost every inline fridge filter on the market, ours included, is a tube packed with loose granular carbon. That is perfectly good for chlorine taste and odour, but water can channel through the granules rather than contacting all of them, and it does very little about particles or heavy metals.
The Matrikx Pb1 is a solid extruded carbon block rated at 0.5 micron nominal, with an ion exchange medium blended through it that targets soluble lead. Every drop has to pass through the block itself. In the same space an ordinary inline filter occupies, you get chemical reduction, heavy metals and fine particle filtration from one cartridge. If you are on older plumbing, tank water, or chloraminated town supply, it is the one to fit.
It is equally at home as the final polishing stage after a reverse osmosis membrane, where the finer block gives a noticeably cleaner result than granular carbon.
Reduction claims published by the manufacturer
- Lead and soluble heavy metals reduction, using an ion exchange medium specific to lead
- Cyst reduction including Cryptosporidium and Giardia, by mechanical filtration
- Chlorine and chloramine reduction
- PFAS reduction
- VOC reduction
- 0.5 micron nominal filtration for sand, rust, silt and fine sediment
- High dirt holding capacity with a low pressure drop
These performance figures are based on the manufacturer's own laboratory testing. The cartridge is separately tested and certified by NSF International and by the Water Quality Association against NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for material safety and structural integrity, and is certified by the WQA to WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-803 for sustainability.

Build your kit from the drop down menus above
- Quick-fit connectors. This filter has 1/4" npt female threads and needs a pair of quick-fit connectors to join it to 1/4" [6mm] tube. Choose 2x straight, 2x elbow, or one of each. Elbows are the usual choice behind a fridge where space is tight. Pick "QF's not required" if you already have a set, as they are reusable.
- Mounting clips. A pair of clips to screw the filter to the wall or cabinet so it is not left hanging on the tube. Worth having on any fridge install.
- Plumbing tape. You will need 6 to 10 laps on the threaded side of the fittings before use. Add a 15 metre roll here if you don't have one on hand.
- Pressure reduction valve. Choose 350kpa or 550kpa. See the note below on why this matters.
Flush the filter for at least 5 minutes before you drink from it. This conditions the carbon block and clears any loose carbon fines.

According to regulatory standards any water filter system under constant water pressure [regardless of the brand or supplier] is required to be fitted with an AS3497 approved pressure reducing valve and back-flow prevention device, which you can add from the drop down menu above. We also recommend that a leak detector shut off device is installed with any water filter and / or reverse osmosis system; we have those listed separately in our store.
Which Fridge Filter Should I Buy?
If you only want better tasting water and your supply is clean town water, a standard granular carbon inline filter will do the job for less. Step up to the Pb1 if any of the following apply: your home has older copper or galvanised plumbing, your council adds chloramine rather than chlorine, you are drawing from tank or bore water, you are concerned about PFAS, or you simply want the most thorough filtration available in the inline format.
Getting the Longest Life From It
Inline filters are generally replaced every 6 to 12 months, though the real figure depends on how much water you use and how much sediment is in your supply. Change it sooner if you notice the flow dropping off or taste and odour returning. Fitting a sediment pre-filter ahead of the Pb1 will extend its life considerably, because the carbon block is then left to do chemical and heavy metals work rather than being loaded up with dirt.
