No micro-organism is known to be immune to UV light, UV systems are very effective at treating for bacteria, algae, viruses, fungi and Cysts (Giardia, Cryptosporidium etc.). These systems are chemical free and have no impact on the taste and odour of the water, instead of harmful chemicals UV sterilisers use Ultra-Violet light between 200 and 300 nanometer wavelengths (optimally 264 nanometres). When microorganisms are exposed to these wavelengths of UV light, they are either destroyed or rendered incapable of reproducing and infecting. The high energy of UV light is absorbed by the DNA of bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms, this energy absorption causes damage to the DNA microbes, resulting in them being incapable of reproducing and infecting or destroying them completely.

The SLT series sterilisers all feature high quality watermark certified stainless steel reactor housings to prevent corrosion and to ensure longevity of the unit. Lamp failure indicators and audible alarms are integrated into all controllers to alert you to a failed lamp and to protect you from untreated water. Pure fused quartz sleeves are used inside the reactor housings to ensure high transmission of UV light from the lamp to the water to ensure the highest dose of UV possible reaching any microbes. High output low-pressure UV lamps are used to ensure a consistent dose of UV is emitted throughout the usable life of the lamp.

Units may be optioned with either a basic controller or weatherproof controller, both controllers include lamp fail indicators and alarms. Basic controllers must be sheltered as they are not sealed against moisture, weatherproof controllers are IP65 rated for water and dust ingress. Both styles of controller can be optioned with day counters which will count down 365 days and alert you by an audible alarm when the lamp is due to be changed, weatherproof controllers include the day counter as standard. All controllers should be protected from direct sunlight to protect against heat/UV damage, Digital/LCD displays will not be covered under warranty for damage due to over-exposure to direct sun. Please note that not all UV models are available with every type of controller.

Units may be optioned with a thermal relief valve, this valve screws onto the outlet end of the UV housing and will purge water from the UV housing back into the tank to maintain a lower temperature. This valve can be fitted to reduce the temperature of water running into the household but can also be used to preserve the UV lamp if the housing is likely to get hot (exposed to direct sun etc). These valves can be fitted at a later date if need be.

NEVER TURN ON A UV LAMP WHEN IT ISN'T INSIDE THE UV HOUSING OR LOOK AT AN OPERATIONAL UV LAMP WITHOUT SERIOUS UV FILTERING EYE PROTECTION, UV LIGHT CAN PERMANENTLY DAMAGE YOUR EYE SIGHT.

It is recommended that no UV lamp is used for more than 12 months/8000 hours, although a lamp may operate beyond 12 months it will generally become less effective and may not provide the proper protection required of the unit. UV lamps/bulbs are not covered by a full warranty as they are considered a consumable part, there is a 30 day replacement guarantee on faulty bulbs which covers manufacturer faults, you will need to be able to verify that you have used a power surge protector with this lamp as they are sensitive items and can be damaged easily by power surges. It is also very important that you do not touch the lamp with your bare skin as any contaminant on the surface of the bulb can cause it to fail prematurely, always handle lamps by the ceramic/plastic end caps or wear cotton gloves when handling. Lamps can be wiped down with isopropyl alcohol to remove finger marks if they are touched.

Seamless Integration and Safety/Maintenance Notes

Units can be optionally fitted with a thermal relief valve at the outlet to purge water back into the tank, helping to maintain a lower operating temperature, which is especially useful if the housing is exposed to direct sunlight. All controllers should be protected from direct sunlight to prevent heat damage. Crucially, users are warned never to turn on a UV lamp outside of the housing or look at an operational lamp without UV filtering eye protection, as the light can permanently damage eyesight. UV lamps are consumable and carry a -day replacement guarantee for manufacturer faults, provided a power surge protector was used. It is also vital to avoid touching the lamp with bare skin, as contaminants can cause premature failure; lamps should be handled by the end caps or with cotton gloves and can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol if accidentally touched.
